Well winter is finally making its way out and I finally got out to fish.Today I went out trout fishing for the first time. Had a good experience overall. Was a little chilly and the bite was a little slow but I caught my first ever rainbow trout. So the first fishing trip of 2017 was a success!

I fished Deer Creek for a little while this afternoon. Action was very slow. I was fishing one hole and I could see a golden trout swimming around and flashes from other feeding fish. I threw spinners, power bait worms and even a Tellico Nymph with no success. Finally I said what the heck. I tied on one of my gold 1/32 oz. shad darts and threw it just upstream of the golden. The fish hit but did not get the hook which is really very unusual. Anyway, I threw it back out and it hit again. This time it got the hook and I landed it. It was a beautiful fish with a deep yellow coloration and a very pronounced pink stripe. It was so pretty that I released it-almost certainly for someone else to eat at a later date. As I said, action was slow and we only caught three trout total along with two fall fish and missed two or three more trout. The trout were all pretty small.

Nice fish jerry! I like to throw them back when they're unique. Give someone else a chance to make a memory on a special fish like that. I plan on fishing deer creek tomorrow between thunderstorms if possible. Did you access from the water falls parking area at Rocks SP? That's the only place I've fished it, looking to try somewhere else if the fishing is good

Probably the best fishing is at the Hills Grove Picnic Area.

The trout were all pretty small.
Apparently they've been having issues at their hatchery meaning they are trying to get the fish stocked before they have a fish kill. Small fish are better than no fish I suppose.

Managed to get out for a little fishing early Saturday. Action was super slow, only managed a couple fish. There was a golden trout there that we must've thrown 20 different things at. Couldn't even get it to look in our general direction. Ill have to remember to pack a couple small darts in the vest. It did reinforce why I dislike city fishing. We were fishing a relatively empty spot and my son caught one. Before I could even get the fish on a stringer, four "fisherman" had crowded around the spot. Couldn't even cast out without risk of crossing someone's line. He was a bit confused about what was going on so I had to explain how inconsiderate and rude they were and that real fisherman don't act like that and left for another spot. To make an even better report, he managed to catch another one out of the spot where two of the other guys were fishing before crowding where we were originally fishing.

I get that nobody owns the stream and that it wasn't "our" spot, but even my five yr old can sense that that's not how things should be. What's wrong with people? A little common courtesy please.
