Is there a difference in the reel body between these two reels. Daiwa shows the weight of the Emcast 5500 to be a little over 4 ounces heavier than the 5000 with higher line per handle turn number.

I thought all the Emcast models used the same body with different spool capacities.

thanks for the help

Daiwa builds reels in what is called families. In this case the 4500 and 5000 are in one family and the 5500 and 6000 are in another family. The reels and interworkings and frame sizes are the same say in family one and the same for family two. Now the only difference in family one would be the spool size one being a little deeper than the other so one reel holds more line that the other and the same for family two.

Example 4500 holds 310 yards of 14 lb test line while the 5000 holds 410 yards of 14 lb test line.

The reels you mentioned are in two different families.

Thanks for the response...very informative. I am left wondering if there are spool design based casting performance differences between the two families.
