I know this is way out in 'left field' from fishing, but just wondering if anyone had heard of it.

We are renting a house in Corolla next summer, when going thru the lease agreement there is a clause that mentions: Due to the earth's magnetic pull in the Corolla area some of the swimming pools may have an electrical tingling sensation in the water. Though not harmful, it is recommended that anyone with a Pacemaker not use the pool. Not to be alarmed, it is not faulty wiring.

My question is, how do you know if it is faulty wiring or Mother Nature making you wanna pee yourself?

Witler,

Somehow, that doesn't sound scientifically-based to me . . . It does sound dangerous.

If it were me, I'd contact Currituck County, fax them the lease agreement, and let them verify the situation.

If it is a wiring problem and the County is involved, NO ONE will be renting that house until it is inspected and properly fixed.

Here is the rental statement, hope I don't get zapped for posting a link. Item 3-C

3. IMPORTANT DISCLOSURES: (a) Agent hereby discloses to You that Agent is acting for and represents the Owner; (b) If the Premises has a private well, it is so noted above. Homes with private wells occasionally experience low pressure, salty, distasteful or discolored water. There may be an unpleasant odor of sulfur. Some guests choose to use bottled water for drinking purposes even though the water is potable. 4WD areas may have more prevalent water problems, even in homes with water filter systems; (c) Occasionally, some pools in Dare and Currituck Counties may experience a mild ground current. Generally, this is not caused by a pool defect or the household electrical system, but appears as a result of the earth’s own natural electrical current. Certain properties may be affected more than others and the current tends to be intermittent in nature. Please be advised, however, that this may affect the operation of pacemakers and other similar devices; (d) Due to the possibility of accident or injury, Owner prohibits children from using hot tubs or operating elevators. Also, the chemicals used to keep hot tubs sanitary may cause fading in some swimsuits and some individuals may experience mild skin rashes. For your safety, chemical dispensers shall not be removed at any time; (e) Agent does not have sufficient excess parking capacity to accommodate Your non 4WD vehicles; (f) Agent has no control over individual subdivision rules and regulations. Each subdivision is governed by a unique set of policies and guidelines with regards to such items as early check-in, on-street parking, storage of recreational vehicles, utility trailers

I wouldn't dismiss it as bs. I've been shocked pulling one of Tommy's rods out of a sand spike buy a steady static current on an overcast/light drizzle day no storms in the forcast. And I can promise you if you own a galvanized track jet ski lift, and leave it plugged in constantly, the track will rust out 5x faster than if it were unplugged. Rust out slower if unplugged and the power to the pier was cut off at a breaker as opposed to unplugged and power left on to the pier also. Low voltage current is naturally occurring all over the place but is more noticeable around salt water.
