Spiny dogfish is a good eating fish if cleaned immediately.. I've eaten smooth and not terrible..

I'm pretty sure commercial fishermen catch them and sell them to be used in fish n chips. I may be wrong about that but I'm pretty sure I have read about it.

Andrew Zimmern says they are great! Even ate a baby one raw, with the egg sac still attached. But, this is the same guy that says fried mullet roe gets a negative score on a 1 to 10 scale.......so, he can't be trusted.

Yup, I was fishing at the Sea Gull Pier (VA) earlier this year and saw some high school kids catching, filleting, and steaking dogfish and skates right on the pier. They were enthusiastic about it and actually shared a recipe.

This is true, They were the original fish for 'fish & chips" until they were fished out of the local waters; then cod was substituted.
