Does anyone know what a "Dream machine" Surf rod is? Have you heard of it before?

I met this wonderful "spunky old timer" English gentleman who used to be an active beach caster in England... he is now 75 years old and has retired from active distance casting... hes a great old guy and we bacame intant buddies...

He told me he had a "dream Machine" surf rod that was the big thing during his hayday and he wanted to bring it to me to check out cause he did not use it any longer.. being the tackle head that I am, I told him "I'll buy it off you" he wants 60 pounds...

I never heard of this rod?

Anybody know what it is?

Am I really lucky and going to be rewarded by God for putting up with my famiy :p or am I going to be punished with a fossil stick that will decapitate me?

please let me know what I'm in for?

AJ,

The "Dream Machine" came out of the Zziplex Factory, very lightweight with awesome power. They were available in a few guises, Match & Sport are the 2 that jump to mind. In the right hands they could cast 260yds and were considered to be a very user friendly rod. There is a tackle dealer in Kent "Mick Sullivan" of Mikes Tackle in Hythe who frequently asks about Dream Machines for Sale.

I hope this helps - Led

Hi Jim Johnston... thanks for the info... but I am in Turkey all year and the shipping expence of a long rod would "fry me"... My new friend "Fred" (the 75 year old spunky English surfcaster) says he will bring me his rod when he returns to Turkey this summer.... he wants me to have it as a present but I told him I would buy it from him ... hes a great old guy and a perfect gentleman I would be embarrassed to take the rod for free...

He says he paid 60 pounds for it so I'm goona offer him 60 pounds..... I quess thats a good deal for this rod ey?

I really eager to go back to the srtaits of Dardanal (Galipolli) and cast some 8+bait for big sharks with that "Dream Machine"..

I think you are expecting too much from the rod for 8oz plus bait. Tip is way too soft for it. Maxs out at 6oz. and a small bait. Its a rod that I have hanging on the wall and do not fish anymore. But as Jim pointed out to me the dream machine butt and the quattro sport tip, is an awesome 8oz. plus bait rod.

I already own a great 5 oz rod, (the Breakaway "123" rod)..... I really am looking for a far casting 8 and bait stik for fishing heavy tides....

thanks to everyone for their input on this thread... I appreciate very much you sharing your experience with me... this is an area where we surcasters are dependant on each others advice..

Warmest reagrds
Awesome John!
