I was driving through OBX a couple weeks ago and came across a big (50-ft?) dead whale a few miles north of the access ramp at Corolla Light. It was on its back so I couldn't tell what species it was. It drew quite a crowd, and one guy said it had been there a week.
Anyone know anything about this?
I have spent a lot of time fishing the suds, mostly in DelMarVa and have seen tortoises, dolphins, etc wash up on shore but never anything like this. Is it common for dead whales to wash up on OBX? Do the authorities leave them there or haul them away?
I'm very curious and any info would be appreciated.
Thanks.
