I fished dam neck for the first time last year late. When would be a decent time to start in the spring. Im primarily a sea mullet with sand flea guy and trout and flounder. I do have my 13 ft for distance as well as 11ft and smaller for closer to shore. Dam Neck is close as apposed to the outer banks. Compared to back bay is dam neck about the same? I probably need to do back bay also. Any info will be priceless to me so please share your input. I dont have a boat so I surf or wade. I live near lesner and just need some experienced info about these two places.

Damneck is my home turf fish there all summer, late april may bluefish and roundhead etc start showing, some nice blues can be caught early may up to 8 pounds some bigger. June thru the rest of the summer pretty much everything is here spot/roundhead/pups and lots of sharks most small but occasional 4ft+. September thru early November big drum make an occasional showing. I actually caught three cobia from the beach last year 2 of them came off of damneck and one off backbay all 60+pounds, so cobia are a possibility also. Backbay has in the past had more structure etc than damneck, not so much last year in my opinion but I like to get out there when conditions are good. You can find some nice water on damneck just got to scope it out at low tide. In the summer lots of swimmers and dog walkers, best to go early or if you don't mind walking go pretty far down from the access. You can fish at night, no permit required or anything just need a lightsource small lantern etc. Well hopes this helps, prob see you out there this summer.........geo

that is great info, thanks. Last year I had a hard time getting sand fleas there, I thinking the sand replenishment had something to do with that maybe, I use a sand flea rake. 8lb blues would be fun. Ive only gotten schoolies more or less so I look forward to that. Apparently not much luck with flounder tho, I didnt see you say anything about them but that was enough info to get me out there. I did walk down quite a ways to avoid swimmers and surfers. Thanks again.

The bigger blues only run thru there in the spring apr/may rest of summer little taylors once in awhile a few 2 or 3 pounders. Catch flounder by accident out there once in awhile but you have better chance hitting rudee or lynnhaven inlets for them. Spanish mack are available occasionally at dusk and dawn when cond are right, only caught a few last year but in years past have caught some big Spanish on stingsilvers/glass minnow lures. Yeah the fleas last year were hit or miss... Last year the bunker hung tight to the beach pretty much all summer well within snagging distance, and because of the bunker it was shark city last year, mostly small but man they were a pain but they(bunker) do bring in the cobia/drum etc so cant complain!

Geo, I really target the roundhead a lot, do you sometime catch big ones? 1.5 lb is citation, its more a variety question to see what to expect. It dos not matter, just curious. When you go for the blues are you using mullet? I got me a vacuum sealer for xmas so I cant wait for finger mullet this year to get bait for the spring next year. It looks like sting silvers only for now. The blues you said about will a 9 ft reach them or should the 13 be used for beat results. In my outer banks nags head tournament we use the 13 ft to reach the second bar or better. I assume its the same . As always its a pleasure to talk to you.

Yeah I target roundhead too, had a better season 2 years ago with a lot of nice roundhead end of may early june , actually caught my first ever roundhead citation that year 1.8. Your 9 ft will be fine for the blues, the are usually running thru the first "cut" sometimes farther out but usually not. Yeah finger mullet etc works fine fresh is better if you can find it early..geo

geo when you see a 60ish guy with long sleeves and a tilley hat on pulling a fishing cart with two to three rods that will be me. Hope to see ya out there. The time I went I set up shop probably 300 yrds from the access. Is that cool or do you go farther along the beach? Not looking for your spot just picking your brain. This crazy weather makes me want to think now something would be out there but it would probably be a stupid doggie. Thank you again for your input.
