DAM NECK NAVAL BASE VIRGINIA BEACH

Hit the beach this morning at 4:30 using a cocktail of fishbites (bloodworm, sand flea & crab) with a few drops of menhaden oil for good measure. Soaked baits for three hours on the incoming tide and am sure the crabs had a wonderful time. No dolphins, one seagull, no ospreys and no one else on the beach. At least I tested all gear and systems and am ready when the bite is on.

I figure at least a week and a half before things start happening. There is supposed to be a temperature drop this weekend and I'm sure this will impact the bite in a negative way. In any event Dam Neck is on my agenda who knows I may bump into you out there tight lines Nick! I bid you peace...........

Thanks for the scoop, see ya there brother. 👍 😊
My belief is low to high might be best, at the end of the day, if temps are still iffy. Sun warms up the sand as the tide drops which gets fleas and such active. Tide turns and it's on. Have seen it happen a few times now.

I have fished my entire life and my Mantra is 2 hours before the High up to 2 Hours after the High then it's time to Boogie on Up! If by chance the Full Moon and the High Tide coincide at the same time then BINGO you have struck GOLD! I Bid You Peace......................

I usually start fishing the salt early and get bummed from lack of bite, but when the water hits 60 degrees is usually the early stages of bites happen. Up here on the Pen water is a bit warmer like Yorktown at 63 degrees. That's a good sign for me, but I will read more reports from this forum as I will be introducing my nephew to surf fishing along with kayaking. Good luck and tight lines.

Yeah it seems once you get over 60 degree water temps consistently the bite starts to happen in the surf

Water Temps still to cold to produce a run of decent fish but next week should be somewhat different even the Outer Banks seem to be struggling due to cold temps.

The sea water temp is 62 today. It does seem to be going in the right direction for a change.

The fish are here and migrated due to other factors like the length of the day (not to mention the ones that never left for the winter) but the cooler water doesn't have them moving around enough to get hungry every day.

I may scout out Dam Neck next week just to get back into the swing of things, I haven't fished in a long time, all my buddies have moved on so I'm the last man standing with the passion of hitting the surf like the good old days!

Flounder, Red fish and Blues are moving in just South of us as of this week and they have to be feeding on something. My guess is Mullet, Croker, and Spot so it won't be long now for an explosion of activity in the Surf. I'm getting pumped up, anyway that's all I have for now. Richie Phill Out.............

The sand fleas (big ones) have been in for two weeks and the reds have been in (mostly over slot and a lot of them) since the middle of April. Blues, flounder, trout, and striper are heavy all along the Virginia coast now too. Most of the action had been on the beaches north of dam neck from Croatan to the high 60s streets. I do have a friend that’s caught a couple dozen mid 30s reds on dam neck though.
