Was told Geresbecks seafood dept. in GB had fresh Spot; and they did but were sold out.
Only thing in the case they were cleaned fresh croakers and some huge fresh Porgies($3.95lb). These fish weighed a couple of pounds easy, didn't know these panfish got that big.

Anyone ever try fresh cut Porgy in the bay or beaches for Blues and Rock?

I second the cut blue if buying from a grocery. At least for blues anyways. When bait fishing for blues from shore you want bait with lots of oil. It's why alewife is my personal fave. But unlike spot and other firm flesh bait you need to change baits often when using soft oily fish. I do every 15-20 minutes or so.

I like to put a relatively big piece on the bottom of a tandem and a nice little piece on the end of the top hook. Most blue bites come on the top hook and using a small piece improves hookup rate. IMO I think the smell from the bigger piece on the bottom helps attract them but who knows. Rock usually take the bigger piece if they are hitting cut fish. Rock are definitely more picky at times so I usually have a second rod out with blood/clam combo.

I read somewhere the folks in Mass and NY use scup for bait. I never tried it myself. When baitfish is scarce, I'll pick up some spots from HMart or Great Wall and if Spot is not available, my next option is Cobb Mullet.

BTW Calli, were you casting using a teaser last night?
