I've seen folks doing it at the Choptank, but crab stocks are at record lows. And I'd wait for the water to warm a bit more.

Curriruck Sound N.C., been eating crabs for over a month now thanks to a commercial crabbing buddy of mine that doesn't mind a rookie to help on weekends. Especially one that only wants crabs for payment of labor. Seriously though the Currituck is a fairly shallow body of water so it warms up quicker than the deep water. I'm not familiar with your area, but try the shallow waters first.

What ever Sand Flea said, but most of the crabbers don't go any farther than light pole #46,they don't want to get tangled up with the people who fish the deeper water.(Talbot side)
