Choosing a Surf Rod

How do I choose a surf rod length?

For Fishing the Beaches of Assateague Island and the OBX what stiffness and Length would you choose if you could only have one rod in the sub $150 range and why?

Penn Battalion II 12ft 6-12oz for obx if you want to get on Drumfrom the beach and piers …not sure about Assateague …don’t fish it

I would go to Hatteras Jack and let Jim build me a custom. Way over $150 I’m afraid. However, you want at least a 12’ rod (I suggest a conventional) with a good reel spooled with 20lb main line, 50lb shock leader and a bigger bite leader for your fish finder rig. For $150, maybe try an Ocean Master or Tica that can sling at least 10oz. Newer rods are out there, but I’m old school. Sorry, I don’t know about them.
Anywhere from Maryland to Cape Lookout can land you a citation drum. Use the same setup for surf and pier fishing up and down the coast.
