Part of Chesapeake Beach in Va. Beach will be closed all weekend to swimming and fishing.
Weekly testing of the bay water showed high levels of bacteria from Fentress Avenue to Windy Road. Re-testing confirmed that there's too much enterococci in the water.
According to the government, an Enterococcus infection can cause complicated abdominal infections, skin and skin structure infections, urinary tract infections and infections of the blood stream
The area will be off limits to all water activities until at least Monday afternoon.
“We will not reopen this water until additional testing has been completed and results indicate that human activity is safe,” said Clarence Warnstaff, acting chief operating officer for the city.
Officials said they'll test the water again on Sunday, weather permitting
