Got on the beach and lines in the surf at about 6:30 this morning. Fished with shrimp and blood worms on bottom rigs with a 4oz pyramid weight (tide was rough). Fished til about 10 and decided to head back to 53rd to fish the backwater while weather was still nice. In the surf I caught a small croaker, a hefty whiting, and a sea robin.

Fished til about 3 at 53rd with blood worms, shrimp, and mud minnows. Blood worms produced 2 keeper croaker and a spot. Caught 1 short flounder with a mud minnow on a carolina rig. Not bad for day 1 of 3, now just hope the bad weather blows through.

We're in Garden City. The radar looks sorta kinda promising for tomorrow. Looks like the storm bunched up and may blow away quicker than thought.

Went back out tonight to 53rd at about 11 pm when the rain broke. Caught another short flounder 5 mins after being there. Stayed til 2am a didn't catch anything else...

Fished Cherry Grove this weekend 5/27-5/30, fished a total of 26 hours from either the Surf or back channels and caught 3 whiting, 3 croaker, 2 flounder (13 in), 1 spot, 1 black drum (barely legal, but legal none the less), 1 sea robin, and 1 ugly toadfish. Of the 12 fish caught, only kept 5, whiting, black drum, spot, 2 croaker.

At ukfan, i fished left of the fishing dock and boat ramp at 53rd. Gets pretty crowded during the day, but not bad at night. Was pretty disappointed with the bite because I know there are fish there or at least there used to be. Wish I had had the opportunity to fish the North end of Cherry Grove at Hog Inlet but just didn't have time and the one chance that I did have time I could not find a place to park so just went to the surf instead.

Hope you have more luck than I did! I put the 20 years of saltwater fishing knowledge that I have to the test and didn't really do many any good this past weekend.

Thanks for the report. Its always tough to put in the time and throw the kitchen sink at em to come up close to empty. I'm going to be fishing the Cherry Grove backwater for the first time next week. I'll have a one day shot from dawn til dusk. I'll be putting a kayak in on 53rd. Never once fished there so we'll see.
