Fished the C&O Canal. this afternoon. Parked at Violettes Lock and walked South on the towpath about 15 minutes. fished near the second cliff.

Caught and released 4 nice largemouth bass, largest about 12 inches. Used a spinner bait.

A good leap day.

You hear about snakeheads making it too the canal?
I have not seen or heard about snakeheads at the canal. There is a sign in the parking lot telling fisherman to kill any snakeheads they catch.

Was at the canal today. Not even a hit. Probably the strong southeast wind against the current. That's fishing.

Wow...I honestly have never been that far up. I've actually road a bicycle up from the Georgetown area into (I think) the Bethesda area. The bike path parallels the canal then strays away from it. Since I normally rode in the summertime there would be times that you couldn't see the canal, but you knew it was there. I always figured that there were some monster bluegills and bass in there. I can imagine that if any snakeheads are in there they have wreaked havoc. I only fished it once, but wasn't really prepared. I think I caught one small bass...Not what I expected. I need to make another run for it. I'm thinking closer to DC though. Lots of logs, deep drop offs and turtles :)

Viollete's lock is at milepost 22, so it's some ways from Georgetown. It's the first lock that water flows in from the river.

Lots of logs, branches, leaves--what the bass like. Plus turtles, snakes, an occasional blue heron and a bald eagle. And only 20 minutes from home.
