Lesner is down, Oceanfront Pier will possibly be down, and now add the CBBT.
The 2016 Spring/Summer fishing season definitely will not start on a positive note for the Virginia Beach area.
Let's hope they don't install "no trespassing" signs along the Rudee shore fishing area on top of all this.

I tied into my first cobia on the Seagull as a teenage boy. I also had some incredible nights fishing for stripers back in the early aughts. I really hope they rebuild it like they say they will but man, five years is a long time to wait.

It was my favorite go to place to fish in Virginia. I will sure miss it, and the Chesapeake restaurant had some really good food, I loved the fresh made sandwiches. The people that worked their were always friendly. I hope the new pier if they do build another one is even longer and better. I feel bad for you Virginians, losing great fishing spots.

Total bummer. My favorite pier and a great place to stop and view!! In fact Virginia sucks at proving access to salt water and making available what is there. In South Carolina (and many other states) when a new bridge goes up, most often the old bridge is made available for fishing. Sometimes they cut out the middle and you can fish from either side. I had my fingers crossed when the new bridge went up in West Point, VA but noooo. What a WASTE OF OPPORTUNITY.

atcgriffin YOU SIR! are the Man! Congrats on the catch. Yep We all have fond memories of this pier as it stands. I remember first going there with my old man. I had a huge chunk of squid dangling in the water on accident while trying to untangle my reel as a kid. Next thing you know I'm doubled over with a striper. Landed BIG sheep/tog and flounder there and had one of my most EPIC run of SPOT on that pier.(before gill netters) ME and my old man dragged our cooler down the catwalk.. lol Good times.. and oh yes Those Sunrises and sun sets.. Awesome.:)

The pier was always open even in bad weather. I remember showing up during a lightning storm and saw a few people taking chances. It was the only pier that was open 24 hours and felt safe to be in even at 2am in the morning.

That's one of the many things I love about the Florida keys...starting in key largo down to marathon there are many bridges that accommodate fishermen that are free aside from buying a fishing license. Really sucks the seagull pier is closing. I've seen people camped out there for days at a time. One of the biggest flounder I ever caught was off the seagull. I remember a few times around thanksgiving when my brother and I were the only lunatics braving howling winds to catch some stripers freezing our butts off taking whatever that little shelter that spot about half way out offered....taking refuge in the outside bathroom that was so warm. Watching the waves slam into the rocks and sending salt spray into the parking lot....good times.

I remember seeing for the first time GIGANTIC black drum circling around the island just below the surface and massive schools of spades when the water was clear. really a one of a kind fishing destination. All things must change i guess...Steel pier (long gone), Harrison pier, Ocean front pier, Lesner Bridge, Rudees rocks.. 2022 is a loooong ways away. Till then its gonna mean good business for the remaining piers i guess..
