Anybody ever had a fish break a rod? Not a car door or your own clumsey self ( or other clumsey self) And I don't mean just loseing a tip to something weird. I mean strike , reel, rear back and SNAP!

Yep, it happened to me twice so far in my life......once bass fishing.......the other in the inter-coastal, no idea what it was. Now I always check drag before first cast. It was not a cheap rod ether one of my better 8'6" rods. I feel your pain!

i saw other people breaking their rod with rays before. i never broken a rod, but couple of my guides came off when a fish or skate pulled my rod from the rail.

the probable reason is that between use you somehow got a little nik somewhere on that rod. when pressure is suddenly applied, it will break..

i hung into a huge rockfish one day and my reel poppep off into the river [ dont never try pulling in line by usn your hands man that hurts ]

What Type Of ROD was it???????

Skunked, if you don't mind me asking, what type of rod was it? I have had some problems with a certain type of rod, I don't want to put them out on the open forum but if you tell me what type of rod it was I may have some good info for you.
