Gonna pick up some braid/Fireline tomorrow. Mainly interested in throwing 1/4-3/4 oz jigs and 5/8th oz Mirrolures.

I have some 14 lb Fireline but it seems like it doesn't come off the spool that well while braid is very limp. What do you guys like? I hear a lot of 10 lb braid on trout setups...not sure if you mean actual braid or 10 lb Fireline. Big difference.

Going on a Battle II 2500.

Yes and keep using it till the coating wears off a little. It handles more like regular braid after it has been used a while.
Have been using it for years now.. One spool I have kept on for 2yrs now.. Preformed well then and still does.. Imho,I have used several "braids" and fireline out preforms them all.. I think "wearing the coating off" pertains more to smoke colored, the crystal seems to be the same out of the box as it does after heavy use..

Yeah there is a lot less coating on the crystal vs the smoke but I still found it to soften up after a little use. And yes braid does last forever. I have one reel that I spooled with just under 300 yards of 10lb PP that is almost 10 years old now and still catches fish like day one. It is just now to the point where I am ready to replace it just based on how much line I have left on the reel not because it is worn out. I will likely just transfer it to a smaller reel and keep using it.

I use 12lb nanofil. Double the mainline when I tie uni-uni knot to 20 or 30lb flouro and have had no issues with it. Cut it back after it starts getting frayed at the end. Mines on a 2500 shimano. Have not tried an 8 strand braid or fireline so I can't compare it.

Have yet to try nanofil, have seen it used and it Definitely does work!! A little pricey, and not sure if it will outlast crystal or reg fireline, but it does preform well!

Knots are finnicky and its not very abrasian resistant. No matter what knot you use, you basically have to double the mainline. I still like it even with all of its downfalls. Use it to throw gotchas off the pier and in the inlet for flounder/reds/trout with gulps/lures and live bait.
