Coming down to Litchfield on Saturday to stay a week for spring break. Was there last year in June and did pretty well throwing metal in the surf, but I've not seen many reports on if the blues are there yet. Anybody seeing any blues or Spanish?

Thanks, and I'll be sure to give updated reports on how we are doing.

Normally, I would give it 2 more weeks. One year, I saw a few jigged up the last week of March, but third week of April or later would be a better bet. You really want a week of water temps above 60 for blues and probably 65 for Spanish. The two frequently travel and feed together.

I have not seen boat reports of Spanish; did read one about blues

The trend right now: skate, shark, whiting, black drum

They're not thick but you can catch some. They are jigging a few up on the piers. Enough to keep you throwing spoons? Just depends on bait in the water. It's still cold at 62-63 but can turn on any day. Spanish should show up within 0-2 weeks. I have caught them March 29th and 30th before. Just need a good wind to blow for a day or three.

Yeah, I've been watching the weather reports for there and it had been fairly warm. Now it looks like it's cooled back down and will be cooler next week. Will still give it a go, but looks like bait fishing will be the way to go. Maybe there will still be some trout in the surf to play with. Thanks for the info.

You might have a small shot at flounder, red drum, and maybe a trout in the surf on artificials. I wouldn't expect a ton. Plenty of whiting though. Some black drum still. Use fresh clams and shrimp. Cut one up for blues, maybe a drum, probably skates and dogfish if it's still cold.

I'm taking a little bit of everything this time. Going to try some Gulps in the surf, but have not had much luck with them. I think I work them to fast. Also going to hit up some of the saltwater lakes and ponds while there which should be more active. Usually do pretty good for black drum in those this time of year.
