Yes they ARe in Carolina Beach area(s) feeding on bait balls,(1.4 to 1/2 mile off the beach),.. watched a guy chase & get spooled today..Proof; One caught in Oak Island Today,, tuna.jpg

So can anyone with a boat and capable equipment fish for these or do you have to have special permitting, etc.? Have always wondered about this.

I believe that you need a highly migratory species permit. There was a big bru ha ha a few years ago when a kayaker did a mother ship trip and caught one. They said that the kayak needed it's own permit...

They waved that for a KAYAK, I contacted DMF and told the I wanted 5 HMS Permits for 5 KAYAKS to go mothershipping.. That would mean and I told them that we would be bringing in 6 a day 5 for the yaks and one for the mothership.. They saw where I was going with that.. But for a Boat HMS is needed.. JAM
