Looking to build a new bucktail rod for the pier. What blanks should I look at? I would prefer an 8 foot blank and I will be throwing 2-4oz bucktails. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
It will be a spinning, I will be putting a Penn spinfisher 6500 with 40lb braid on it. My budget will be about $150 for the blank, but I'm willing to go a little higher if necessary. I have been looking at the calstar GF800M and GF800H but I wanted to see what everyone else suggests. Thanks!
You are spot on thinking of a 8 ftr blank. One piece...... you probably will need the distance with it. Minimum would be7 ftr. Built spinning. I throw 3 oz lead heads but with a grub I bet Im close to four ounces.
What does the guys at TW's tell ya??? If I'm not mistaken Justin at TW's catches loads and loads of cobia with bucktails every year although his come off of boats would be a experienced guy to ask also. Nathan or Nick too. Course you may have already talked with them.
Good luck P.S. I have been using St. Croix 7 ftrs and 7 1'2 ftrs conventional.
