I have caught black drum in the surf but never specifically targeted them. What rig and bait do you guys suggest? I have always caught them on fresh cut shrimp. Where do they like to hang out in the surf? What should i be looking for?

I don't really target them.. If they are there.. you will catch them.. I usually catch them on a hand tied 2 drop rig or a Carolina rig with Circle Hooks. Fresh Shrimp seems to be the best for me and it seems like they work the sides of the sand bar or any where there is a rise or elevation change of the sand floor. Now that's just my opinion.. not the Fishing Bible.

They love sand fleas. Casted in the suds. Not a lot of meat on them because they are all head but good eatin

Hard pressed to beat fresh shrimp for black drum. Double hook bottom rigs, Owner mutu light circles, size 2s. Catching lots of them down here in SC but the keepers are few and far between right now. Should get better when the water temps start dropping.

I catch a lot of smaller ones on bloodworms or Fishbites bloodworms.
