What are some of the biggest fish/rays/sharks y'all have caught on 17 lb test? I run17 lb suffix on my drum/shark rig, just curious to see what are some of the bigger catches out there on this same lb test line.

Luckily grounded a 7 ft bar shark off cape Point without snapping in about 6 " of water
Suffix is the right choice.
Have landed 200-225 diamond rays [the ones with no tails]on 20 lb. tritanium as well.

this one was on 20# was approx. 6' accrossed, how much it weighed who knows, the next day an 8'er snapped a 15-50# ugly stick, that was 7 I caught that week.

Nothing huge, couple of 6-8# drum and lot of smaller stuff.

Thanks for the replies, to all. Matrix...........how many yards of line you using to beach those two sharks? Close to 7 footers?

Both of those were caught on an Akios 656 SCM....it should be right at 300 yds +- of the Suffix Tri+ on that reel.

The Sandbar was 7' the garbo was scratching 8', both very different fights.

Good to know that a 7-8 footer is attainable with 17 lb test line. Exactly what I wanted to hear. What was your buddy bowed up on in the background of the pic with the garbo?

15lb black drum on 15lb test. Not as impressive as the above catches, but it had me nervous at first.

Yep its definitely doable with the right tackle. They were hooked up with more sharks.....they are thick in Hatteras right now.

Two years ago caught a 65lb 8oz cobia on a penn 525 from the surf on sufix 17lb, buncha big drum and sting rays also, good line but I recently switched to prospec chrome seems a little more durable for surf fishing, nothing wrong with sufix though

I caught a 5 1/2 ft bull shark with 17lb Tritanium.

It almost spooled the 656 Akios I was throwing, I could not have had 20 yards left on the reel but I eased up and it stopped and I just waited and gained a little then a little more and 25 or 30 minutes later and 100 yards down the beach and then 100 yards back past where we started and I drug it up on the beach.

I changed the line out and it just laid out straight. There was no memory in it at all except being stretched straight out.
