Gonna throw the age old question out there. Is salt water fishing better immediately before the full moon, during the full moon or immediately after the full moon?

I've heard so much about fishing the full moon. I think there's some truth to it, but I wonder if there are any enlightened ones out there that are one with the moon phase and the fish who can pontificate on when it is best to fish around the full moon. Interested in any science there is behind it if in fact there is real science behind it.

Please share your thoughts. Thanx.

yes a full or new moon is better fishing but it's not that simple in that so many other things factor in say like weather, rising barometer is not a good time but a falling one can be great

dark of the moon for some species.....drum seem to favor fulll moon though...fleas and other bait for the taking....crabs shedding in the marsh grass

X2 Steady barometer. I like a out house moon. If your old enough to know what an out house moon is.

For flounder, three days after the first quarter and three days prior to the new. Works for me.

Not sure about the fishing aspect of a full or new moon other than the tides are higher and lower at these times. Last week we were on the beach when that blood red full moon came up over the ocean in the east an that sure was beautiful. Gradually turning white and illuminating the beach and the water. Whether I catch a fish or not, to see that is heaven.
I think offshore they say dolphin fishing is not as good on a full moon since they feed at night, wahoo bite is strong. I remember one night in nags head catching puppy drum on the full moon on finger mullet. Absolutely beautiful night....calm surf, light dancing off the water, fish stripping drag under the full moon....my oh my.

Personally, in my perfect little world, I like the days around a full moon, with a high tide shorty after daybreak, with S or SW winds and an overcast sky with light rain, during Oct / Nov on a little Island in NC...


Is that asking for too much?
