I've fished the OBX piers for over 20 years, almost always for Kings on break away trolley rigs, but I've also picked up the odd cobia by seeing them, and tossing a live threadfin to it.

I'm sick of the 8 hr drive from where I live to Frisco NC (that pier has been destroyed in storms, and I haven't heard if it will be rebuilt.) and know that they catch both Kings and Cobias though mainly cobia. Can anyone point me to a few piers in particular? And when in the spring to you see them in numbers to make fishing worthwhile?
(not that I need an excuse to fish, but if I'm going to watch a live bait swim in circles on my trolley rig all day, I'd at least like there to be a decent chance of at least seeing one, more importantly, catching one!)

Summertime hit Seagul Pier, and Buckroe Pier which is the best spot for Cobia all the fishing season. Kings are a hit and miss around town but va beach pier or sandbridge pier might be a good spot. For deep water fishing hit fort Monroe fishing pier, the channel is a shipping channel going as deep as 45Ft or deeper.

Last few yrs they been catching them first at buckroe frequently, then at seagull a few weeks (2-3 weeks)after buckroe has been seeing them.
