Can't speak to JRB specifically but th croaker have been hitting hard for th last two weeks all around,James an York. Bloodworm an squid are th ticket.

BTW from what I have heard th Night bite is best at JRB.

Th James river is Brackish,the offical fresh/salt water line is only 20miles or so down river.BTW I don't know if th JRB has a pier licensce so you might have to pick up a SW fishing licensce.
