There are actually 48 folks in this tourney.. There have been as many as 27 rods on a 15' end.. No fist fights,as a matter of fact EVERYONE has worked together.. LUCKILY,until today with wind nne at 20-25 the "windbowfactor" has not been an issue.. Tater and I are heading out there in about 10min.. The fish are scattered because of this last big swell that came out of no where and subsided Thursday before tourney.. Today with this wind there could be some fish and HEAVY TANGLES!! This is where the boys and men will be separated.. haha Tourney ends tomorrow at 12 noon... So far a great tourney with LOTS of good folks sharing the smallest end on the east coast...

Only two fish so far a 44"er and a 41"er.. MANY are attempting to catch the biggest bluefish in the surf.. Although instead they are hammering nice legal sized black drum along with some nice seamullet as well..

The tourney started at 12 midnight thrusday and ending on 12 noon sunday.. So far so good..

Well,Tater and myself, along with MANY OTHERS in the tourney wound up with a big fat 0.. Tom Harris, and Pat Bracher wound up second and third, with Jeremy Beckem having the largest fish of 47" fork length.. All of them had 2 big drum.. Hunter Heavner,a NEW NAME in drum fishing caught his first 3 drum EVER,to be the overall winner!! A great and fun tourney with close to 50 entries on that small pier.. We had as many as 27 rods on the end at one point.. Everyone worked together as a team and managed it somehow.. I believe the total count was 12 fish.. Which for this time of year pitiful.. I believe the huge swell that had been here days before was the villain..

Like was said a great tourney for a great cause 6000 plus $ was donated to American Legion for their project "comfort warriors".. A great cause for veterans day!!

You are not part of the joke.

I have Drum fished with these fellas for the better part of 30 years. I have nothing but respect and admiration for the skill it takes to excel at this specific game.

Why comment on a place or tradition or most importantly people you know little about?

Spend 1000 nights out in the wind and weather off Rodanthe pier with a bait out into the darkness and then perhaps you will understand me more and the fellas who I respect as more than competitors in the game I hold dearest.
