Just wanted some opinions on Truth reels.. I watched at least 3 of them self destruct last fall on both sharks AND drum... I ALSO witnessed the casting abilities of this reel and it was an awesome setup,as far as casting... Just wondering if they have worked out all the bugs in the drag and gear system????

It would be interesting to hear if the blown up reels were repaired or replaced under a warranty.

They look pretty.

I have not had a chance to see one in action yet. Like Garbo said they are pretty
I can blow up a couple good reels for the cost of blowing up one of these.
It's sad that the closer I get to retirement the more I look at the money part. Use to be I just bought it and then listened to my wife bi$&h for several days

After checking some of the new pretty reels...I emigrated back to my old SL30SH's, which allows me 4 reels to blow up for each Truth. I actually spooled three of them with new line last month and they are leaning in my living room here in Chicago ready to go.

If I am drinking and fishing I may need 5 reels for a extra cushion, after I have blown up five reels, it is time to set rods in the truck and move to the outer bar (Kelly's).

I like the drags on the SL30SH's and as long as I do not try and overfill the reel spool they are pretty reliable with one white brake. I have only had one SL30SH blow up and it was due to Flipper:rolleyes:

Played around with 525mags and even with the extra mag kits, they would get squirrelly on me.....the 525mag would have worked for me if they had just been able to spool 300 yards of 20 pound.

DD

Truth might lend Tater a prototype just for the promo.

Get one in the hands of Tom H. or let Tater take it Sharkin.. and report back to us with photos.

If it does indeed outcast all other reels, I may have to pick up a couple...paying $800 to make the Kinnakeeters and Avalonians cry and moan is actually a bargain....do these reels come with rod clamps?

If you are interested, PM me . . . Sorry for the sidetrack, Drumdum !

Dave I am not interested.

I have around ten or so back up spare reels at the moment, I will admit I have never cast a 535 but I am pretty comfortable with SL30SH until the Truth comes out:)

I sold off my last two 525Mags to Savfish in 2013. (Savfish imploded after Nick won the Man in 2014, could not take the pressure). I guess I could contact Savfish and offer to buy them back:)

Travis K, swears buy the reel! He can sling the crap out of it and has done well with catching big sharks and lots of Drum. We were fishing the towers together and he smoked a few good size AJs it as well. Getting them up in just a few minutes.. Not to mention casting over 680' in a contest. Kyle B loves his as well and has caught some big fish on his as well..Now I have seen Travis Blow Up a lot too..

If Tater is getting one to help promote the reel that would be awesome. However I know he will keep that beat up Saltist 20H close for change outs.

Personally, it is a pretty reel and I think Wes has worked a lot of the bugs out. I think it has the power too..He is also making good on updates on the older reels free of charge.
If you're spending the money I see it as a "can't loose" situation. I'm not paying that amount for one, just yet. It will be different seeing you use that pretty reel over your beat up Saltist too. If you do get a Truth.

I've been really intersted in the Penn Fathom 15 the last few months but haven't pulled the trigger on buying one. You know I need all the help I can get;-). Right now my Saltists and Trinidad are doing the job..
I do not discount any Slosh's, ABUs, 525's or even 980s either as they are also good choices for those who actually use their equipment and catch fish.

When and If you ever use your gear....

Don't bring that clear line anywhere near The Point, Avalon Pier, Rodanthe Pier, Avon Pier or Jennetes Pier.

The latest versions, with the larger magnet (you have to request this) are very controllable.....previous gear problem seems to have been fixed.....I love mine (both of them). They truly are remarkable casting machines.

Got my hands on one this spring for a few cast, fast reel but it didn't feel like a $400.00 reel. To me it was like paying for a Ferrari and getting a Corvette it is fast and handles good but for the price difference it's not that nice.

Tater took one for a spin.. A friend of ours told him to use it and "break" it if it can be broken as they have a dynamite warrantee.. He did both used it and broke it,TWICE!! haha The drag jumped ship on a shark, and then again on a drum.. Sounded really bad casting after that.. BUT,as I understand it they have worked some of the bugs out..

I thought that Braid was the big "NO-NO" out there . . . So, if not Clear, how about Dark Green or Gray-Blue like P-Line or does everything have to be "Hi-Viz" to satisfy you ?

What's your favorite color for mono, Tuna ?

Braid is a non starter on the OBX piers and the Point.

You have to use Hi-Vis mono at the Point and all the Piers except for Jennettes which has a State Exemption:)

Jennettes is fine for clear and light gray invisible type lines, I am pretty sure they allow everything including crystal braid out on the Jennettes T as it is a State of NC owned pier:rolleyes: and besides with an invisible line Drum fishing at night, you want to meet the Locals anyway for tips and pointers on technique and bait sources:rolleyes:

They need to send the revamped model back to Tater and have him put it to the torture test or "Wilson" testing technique:rolleyes:

If Travis can cast 680' he is banned from Hatteras, along with the man that cast over 700' with a Hatteras cast, That guy is definitely banned from Hatteras:) 700' Hatteras cast guy can not fish Nags Head piers either. I guess it will be okay if they fish Sandbridge.

Well your First Mistake was " I THOUGHT"

Dave you are the forum EXPERT AND SEARCH ENGINE... (self appointed of course) YOU SHOULD KNOW ALL THIS!! NOW YOURE ASKING... You have all the answers !!!

Drum season and fishing in tight quarters HIGH VIZ Only Day or Night.. It's not about me either, it's about others That you may be fishing beside. .....Get crossed up and tangled with them and find out. Let us know how all that works out..

Outside of that, I could give a flip what you use.

As far as me telling you my favorite color line... I find that is really not relevant to you..SO DONT WORRY ABOUT WHAT I USE....I use the same as everyone else...

It's much more expensive than the CHEAP Berkley Big Game you buy at Wally World too.., HOWEVER BBG solar collector is descent they don't stock it at Wally World in 20# or 15#..

Fish clear, clear blue, dark green line at JP and you won't be fishing it long...as well as the other piers I outlined in my previous comment..

Im going to bed... Fishing in the morning!

Kenny, Travis has been instrumental in working the bugs out...he can be rough on his equipment, though he doesn't mean to be. He is that " country boy strong" and has a powerful cast. So he reports back to Wes. The bearing issue was cleared up at the end of the season last Fall.. If there is an ABEC 9 bearing it's probably in that reel now.. If not then they are ABEC 7s
