can any shark fisherman give me or let me know if it is possible to have a custom made shark dehooker around 30 foot or so that can be broken down so i can fit it into a car.the reason for asking,i am in a wheel chair and i love shark fishing but want it possible to dehook them,i use non stainless circle hooks only.i can only fish from the skyway pier.it is the only place accessible for me.i really feel bad if i have to cut the line.it has nothing to do with any expense of tackle, just for the well being of the shark.if anyone has any recommendations on how this could be done or anyone that could help me construct one if even possible,i will pay for it.im new on this site and cannot find anything long enough online.my shark season starts at the end of april.i fish from 2 hours from sunset till 2 hours after the sun comes up:).if you have ever been to skyway pier on the manatee county side you have probably seen me fishing all night.if you could help or direct me in any way please reply.happy fishing all.:)

Not sure if you could attach a normal dehooker to a telescoping net type of pole possibly. I fish at the skyway pier all the time now trying to catch shark but so far only caught a dolphin by accident. I'd be happy to help haul up the shark for you whenever I'm there as I love eating shark if you don't want to keep it. I'd only keep any that you were ok with keeping as I believe in the conservation of the misunderstood species. I have a pier net that we can haul them up with easier. IM me if you'd like help as I'm usually there pretty often but usually on the north side but I'll come over to help if you ask.

in my very personal opinion:
a person should not intentionally target a particular species if he does not have the
experience, ability, tackle, and the appropriate tools and gear on hand
to single handedly either harvest the fish or safely release it.
piddling around with dangerous fish that could potentially harm a person
or the fish is not being a responsible angler.

Getting a circle hook out of a shark's jaw is dicey enough, "hands-on" at close range, let alone trying to do it remotely on the end of a 30 ft pole.

I understand you don't want to harm the Shark, but it seems to me that the hook will have to stay in the fish.

However, with that said, I do have a "compromise" idea. First, use barbless circle hooks or bend down or grind off the barbs on the hooks you use.
As long as you keep tension on the line, everything should be fine.

Second, is my untested concept for a "Release Rig", suitable for use from Piers and Bridges.

Take a look at the Diagram below ( bad artwork warning ).

I like the concept PierRat. I would suggest using small diameter heat shrink instead of rubber bands. The only real issue I see with your setup is casting 30 feet of doubled wire.
Yeah, that's a problem, alright. Maybe use some kind of float or something. It was just an idea and definitely untested.

One thing I've heard of guys doing up in the Northeast from the sand is having a stainless steel ring and they tie a thin rope to it and slide it down the line. once it slips onto the bend of the hook they yank the rope and pop the hook out. I am not too sure if you could do that from 30' up though. You may be able to at least rig something up to slide down the line and be able to cut the line off close to the hook vs having 30' of mono trailing off.
