They are going to open ramp 2, some of 23 & 34 in the summer. Extend the by pass to the ramp on 44 but only 300' from where it stops south. You might can get on the beach before 7 if the turtle patrols have been checked but no earlier than 6:00. Villages are open two more weeks in the spring, two more in the fall. Opened some vehicle free area in Ocracoke on a ramp too but I can't remember which one. Yearly permits are from the date you buy them and 7 day permit is now a 10 day.

I have a few friends that moved down there from Tidewater, VA and they have told me that the economy has been hurt drastically by the ORV rulings. The fishermen have stopped coming down like they used to before because of the EPA regs. I, for one, quit coming down to surf fish because of the regs set forth by a non-gov't agency that had influenced the Department of Interior which manages the federal parks. Now you can ride on beaches if you pay a fee....hmm.....turtles and birds must want greenbacks more than safe spots to breed. On one occasion I saw Federal Park Rangers shoot a fox, because the ORV's were hurting the natural habitat. Remove predators to protect prey never works. We have seen this from past events of eradication of wolves, lions, and other carnivores for herbivores. Then after years of destroying an ecosystem, they re-introduce predators for balance. Everything was in balance before the ruling on ORV's was introduced. JMO
