I fished AI yesterday with the wife, but ended up coming home with empty coolers and sunburn. It was super windy from the E-NE and there was no hiding from it, my 2 Boxers didn't even want to get out of the truck. We fished with bunker, BW, BWFB, Mullet and quid, but could only catch a 11 inch Stripper and 2 skates. The guy next to us landed 4 Chopper Blues over 30 on bunker shortly before we arrived.

Anyway, I got to take the wife fishing, update the OSV sticker and prefish for my week long trip to AI next week. If anyone is out there the 8-13 stop by and say hi, I will be in a silver Tahoe with a small cargo trailer.

Wanted to add to your report, I was there from 9-3. Nothing but Skates using Fresh Spot, Fresh Mackeral, BW, BWFB.

This is my first year fishing AI. I want to try Mullet and Bunker, do you guys think it would be an improvement of Fresh Spot and Mackeral?

Believe it or not, I would have loved to catch a skate there last month. MY two girls would have had a great time hauling in those monsters.

One question: How do you guys keep crabs from eating the bunker and spot????

Fighting a skate is akin to reeling in a tennis shoe unless foul hooked but my boy would get a kick out of anything on the hook. Some of the Rays that frequent our waters however would drag his little but out to sea.

As for the bait stealers, they come with the territory. Diligence is your friend. When the thieves are thick I will cast out and then every 3-5 minutes give each reel a few cranks moving the bait. Repeat 3 times and the reel in and rebait. Fleas and peelers would be out as well particular this time of year.
