Hello I'm going to be down in Nags Head most of the week of March 28 with my son. I'd like to try our luck at Cape Hatteras around ramps 43/44. My question is this - do you need to access the shore via vehicle or can you park somewhere near it and walk down the rest of the way? The reason I ask is that my Impreza AWD does not look to be a candidate for handling the sand (bad clearance, AWD) so I'd probably not risk it unless you all think it can.

At each ramp is a parking lot so those without 4x4 , I do it now till I find a 4x4 to replace my old one

It's my understanding that the parking lot for ramps 43/44 is wet. It's never dried out from last fall.

It is a shorter walk to walk out 43 to the beach
