What constitutes the original blue yonder? As far as I can tell it's just a pro rocket with a matching blue frame and spool? Am I mistaken?

Original BY had a chrome frame, black spool and blue sides.

Thanks for the reply, is there anything special about them other than the color? I'm rather fond of the abu's and I'm wondering if it's worth adding to my collection

orig blue yonder had [elite] on sideplate, abu got sued then blueyonder was on side

The new ones have black side plates chrome cage and blue spool. People don't seem to be crazy about them. I got one and used it as a platform for a custom. Added a bunch of goodies and spent a bunch of money. Something to do over the winter.

Yeah, I have one of the new ones, I think it's a pretty solid reel

I also have one of the new blue yonders. I have the 7000. Very solid reel. Actually just picked it up last week loaded it with 20 lb mono and it will flat out cast a 6oz . And I haven't even cleaned and oiled the bearings yet

Same here. 7000 that I spooled with tangerine color suffix tritanium and mounted on a 13ft HDX. I can't wait to see what it does after I regrease and oil the bearing because it's already a monster. Even if it is made in China

That's the same setup I have the hdx matched with the blue yonder. Killer combo to say the least and they are both made in China lol

What made the original blue yonder a performer was the two pin fiber "rocket" brakes.

The newer 6 pin ABU's are not the same.
