Thinking about getting one (or two), I'll be using it on a 9 foot rod for spiked/pier fishing on the bottom usually, would occasionally toss metal with it. How much 17 lb Tri+ could I get on it? I know 14 is fine but I like 17 as it'd do double duty in thick cover for freshwater catfish. Would 17 lb give me enough capacity and still cast good for light bottom fishing (pomps, whiting, smaller blues, ect)?

One more question, what's the size and quality vs a SLX20SHA? I have one and might just get another for a few bucks more since I know I already like them.

17lb line won't throw lures near as far as say 12 or even 14 .....

I use abu's in the surf for pluggin and bait. You can fit 300yrds. of 30lb. braid on their no problem if you fish braid and are comfortable casting with it. That would be my suggestion; or berkely vanish 14lb will fit a solid 250yards and the 17lb will fill the spool at 200 yards. I like that Vanish...it's a nice
