I went out on the Morning Star on Saturday 22 Nov.
Capt Monty went out about 25 - 30 miles because the
day was near perfect. The first drop started out
great, put about 5 or 6 keepers (seabass) into
the cooler in about twenty minutes....then the sharks
showed up. The sharks were THICK! Just like
the bluefish a few weeks ago, the sharks were
following the seabass in schools of 5 or 6. These
sharks had size to them also @ 35 - 50 inch range.
The mate said they are good to eat so I kept about
5 or 6 for the fillet table. The next drop was about
the same except the sharks were waiting and the
bluefish were there thick also. The bluefish
were smaller than before @ 20 - 35 inces. Which
is better eating anyways. The third and last drop
was the best of the day. (It always seem that
way doesnt it?) The spot was soo good that Capt
Monty stayed an extra hour so people could
fill out their limits. For the day me and my wife
got 40 seabass, 9 bluefish, and 5 or 6 sharks. My
arms are still sore. Smile. I have one last trip
booked on 26 Nov. (The weather looks great!)
There is still room left if anybody wants to join
me. The wife has to make Turkey day food so
I will be going solo.

dckhd247,

Looking at the NOAA forecast you should be
right in there for Sunday the 30th. Thurs and
Friday look to be a too rough for boats.

Nice report. At least some of us are getting into good amounts of fish. What's the size limit on those sharks? I've seen them at the asian markets but they aren't very fresh.

Wrong Way,

I honestly could not tell you. I think that
the Mate said there is no size limit, but
everybody sticks to at least a 36" miminum
from what I have seen. My dad fried up
some of the filets and said they tasted like
scallops! Sharks lookout! Smile.

For dog sharks there is no size limit or creel limit. But for other sharks I believe it's 54 inches or something close to that. The best way to keep a shark is to gut it right away then ice it. That way the ammonia won't spoil the fish.

I Know one thing about size limits, if you catch
a seabass on the Morning Star, it had better
be over 12". Capt Monty was going though
coolers throwing shorts back on Saturday,
and then told everybody that he was going
to call the game warden. Sure enough they
were waiting for us when we got back to the
Sunset Marina. They went through everybody's
coolers and if they found one that was close
they measured it.
