Batman,

The Daiwa reels (SLH-SHV-Z) are standard issue for large stripers, drum, and sharks at AI and the Outer Banks, NC. I have the Z-30 model with a Oceanmaster 12' conventional reel and love it! The rod is rated for 5-9 but it takes 6 oz just to load the rod.

I took it out for the first time since I got the reel and I swear that my distance with a 6 oz weight doubled! This is going to be my "go to" rod for fishing the rough surf when I need 6 or more ounces to hold bottom.

I use a 20 lb test mono (no braid for me) attached to a 50 lb shocker. I think I am going to change my shocker over to 80 lb test so I will be ready to cast over 6 ounces when I need to.
