Hey Guys,

I found a lot of info about braid to fluoro, but I need to attach 12# mono line to a 25-30# fluoro leader, and I'm not sure what is the best knot for that application. I prefer something that can be done quickly, but only if it doesn't sacrifice strength.

Also, what knot/method do you like to attach the fluoro leader to a lure, specifically a metal lure?

Thanks!!!

Nevermind, I just realized I need to go 12# main to about 30# mono shock leader, then maybe add a short fluoro bite leader. I'll be throwing 2 oz and don't wanna kill anybody. Sorry, I'm learning a lot searching through old threads!!!

I use Tommie's knot (with a double overhand in the shock) to attach the shock to my running line, but am going to experiment this weekend with trying a figure eight (instead of the double overhand) in the shock and running the running line through it and making a uni in that one. I also use that for my casted shark setups, 50 sufix braid running to 60 BBG shock/topshot.
You should be good with a 30 shock if you are tossing 2 oz.

fluoro to lure...I just use a palamor...wet down good...snug up good.

running line to fluoro....I tried the slim beauty last year and I thought it did good. May take longer than you are willing to do. 10#mono to a 30# fluoro leader. Wet good.

You can take the time to learn a fg knot,or bimini to no name. If the braid was 20, a uni to uni will work, not as strong as fg,but much quicker and has plenty of strength.. Use a nail, palamor, uni,or trilene loop knot to lure, with 25-30lb floro tied with any of these knots correctly,it should be more than strong enough..

I'm guessing you are throwing metal in the surf let me suggest that you use just one piece of flouro for your shock leader and your bite leader. Maybe ten to twelve wraps around your spool. If you continue to get bit off or chaffed by those toothy critters, then add, a tied on, bite leader. I'm saying avoid multiple connections whenever possible.

If your tend to be on the more THRIFTY side, then by al means go braid, to mono, to flouro.

The hottest braid to mono/flouro knot going right now, is the FG Knot.. Lots of really good videos on YouTube on how to tie it. Find the method that works for you...

If you stop by Frisco Rod and Gun.. I am positive that "Tater" can teach you that one and a few others.
