EVERYTHING! Mid-September is a great time as it's typically the beginning of the Fall runs. Look back at other posts on this page for examples of what happened here last September.....

Honestly, I wouldn't bother with the 14 Ave Pier that time of year. Sure, when the beach is packed, you almost certainly have to fish from a pier to avoid the people. But that time of year, the beach will not be as packed, and that pier is so short there's little benefit. If it turns out to be crowded, and you must fish from a pier, I would highly recommend taking a ride to any of the other piers in the area. I prefer Apache Pier myself, but you also have 2nd Ave close by, and farther South the Garden City pier is also popular with fishermen.

If the 14th Ave Pier is your only option, fish a double drop rig just behind the breakers, and you might find some Pompano or Whiting, but probably mostly Pinfish. The water isn't deep or clear enough to target Spanish, and it's a bit early in the season for Spot. Blues might be running, and at least put up a fight. Could be some summer Flounder hanging around the pilings, but probably on the small side.
