Found myself a 17" wild brown in the Upper Patuxent special area last Saturday. Found one of my special spots in a tributary, cast in a heavy #10 bugger, and went for a ride on my 8' 4wt. This river used to harbor a number of fish larger than this but they all seemingly disappeared. This is the first reported of this size in a long while to my knowledge. The Fall bite has wound down and it's time to switch to Winter tactics.
I make the trip from Dover a couple of times a year - sometimes with fishing buddies - sometimes without. This was a one day in - one day out trip. Well worth the trip there as alot of other streams and rivers (Cassellman, Youk, etc.) are pretty much dried up.
