Carp at the Daniels Dam area

I recently went to the Daniels area to hunt smallmouth. I arrived before sunrise and noticed carp tailing on the surface above the dam. I figured they might be eating water boatmans off the surface but couldn't see any. I tossed a hellgrammite pattern near where I saw fish occasionally tailing but couldn't get any to eat. Anyone have tips for these fish?

Also, I caught a 6" striper about 1/4 mile below the dam, so it looks like Bloede being gone is good for the stripers!

Back in the late 50's and early 60's I used to fish for carp there. Lots of good memories fishing Daniels. My favorite area for SM was at the Johnnycake bridge with live hellgrammites. It's possible that the striper was a hybrid and washed down from Liberty.
