    RTIC Coolers Tariff Surcharge

I saw were they were having a sale on some backpacks , 70% off so I thought I would get one for my grandson . I go to check out and see their adding a "Tariff Surcharge "
I figured that the Tariffs would just cause a bump in the price of goods as a matter of course , But this is just rubbing it in your face and it was on all their products .
If you have to raise the price to cover costs then do it , My days of buying RTIC products are done .

I saw the exact same thing. I live in GA and they now have a store in Suwanee so not only do I have to pay the tariff but I now have to pay sales tax. But, I am still a big fan of their products.

I was wanting to see there store but dealing with the traffic from here South of Atlanta makes it a task. Before they had a store they have shipping center in GA. to service the south east so you would have been hit with sales tax , I found that out last December when they had great price on the 20qt. I paid it and don't have a problem with sales tax it funds my State so I benefit from it .
It's the backhanded way they slap the Tariff Surcharge on is what piss's me off .

Why would they have increased costs from tariffs? Do they use Chinese plastic? Sounds like an unAmerican political statement/scam.

The coolers are made in China . So they have to pay a Tariff on them , When a company has higher costs they raise the price to cover the increase and keep their margin , But the other import cooler companies haven't raised their prices , That's because there is a Huge Profit Margin in coolers so they chose to suck it up because the Tariffs may drop or go away in time and if not some my raise their price but none of them are sticking in the face of the consumer and saying here pay this .

Wow that's a surprise, Yeti control's all pricing with a death grip. To be a Yeti dealer you have to sign a agreement to abide by there pricing or you don't get to be a dealer. If you get caught selling below what they set as sale price your cut off .

I do not own a Yeti cooler. I do however own several Rtic coolers. I bought them when they were on sale and have been pleased with my purchase. I am sure the mark up is crazy high on roto molded coolers made in China so they should just absorb the tariff until it passes or just increase the prices to cover the increase. Some people will not pay the tariff but if it is hidden in the price of the cooler they will not think twice about it because they don't know.

I have been in the transportation industry for 23 years. Most companies add a fuel surcharge to their pricing if fuel prices go up. We do not. We eat it and make up for it later. I get customers calling all the time complaining about the surcharge. I quote a price and they book because we do not add surcharges for fuel. They are willing to pay me more because I do not hit them with a surcharge later. Technically they are paying for the increased price of fuel but they know what they have to pay and are not surprised with a 10% increase just before they leave.

The man aptly termed "Moron" by Rex Tillerson self created this Tariff mess, Moron likes conflict it distracts from the facts like he is compromised by the Saudis and Russians. When his tax returns finally are finished with being "Audited" and his taxes and income statements reveal the truth about the "Art of the Deal" in reality the "Art of squandering a vast inherited fortune" then perhaps someone else will get a chance at the top after "Moron's Base" realizes that they have been had......by a Fraudster from Queens who was so embarrassed by his Father's success building apartments for middle and low income New Yorkers and not a Manhattan Developer to the Rich and Famous that he sold off the apartment portfolio that had made Moron and his siblings wealthy.

Tariffs historically do not go away, in 1984 Volkswagen wanted to send to America a VW Rabbit which had a pick-up truck bed and a bench seat in the Cab. Detroit went absolutely nuts on Congress and a 20% Tariff was added to all Foreign imported Pickup Trucks and the VW Pickup never made it into production. Which is why Toyota and Nissan build their trucks in the US with non union workers. Pickup Tariff is still in place thirty years later.

Tax the US Consumer and act tough on the World Stage, what a bleep bleep Draft Dodging Punk.

One stone cold fact I have learned in my 6 decades on Earth is that men that are actually the heroes and brave amongst us are actually pretty quiet and feel no need whatsoever to act tough or angry all the time.........what a bleep bleep bitch.

Right but still a world better than what the other side has to offer. Everything is racism, sexism, or some other form of ism, schism or shism. Nobody fails because of their own choices, it's all white privilege and oppression. Everyone who has worked hard to get somewhere in life should be taxed to take care of deadbeat lazy bums that want to sit and play victim. Let's swing the door open and allow mass unchecked immigration of God knows who. Trump is uncouth, crass, can be arrogant and make some bad decisions etc but I'll take that over the socialist utopia that the likes of AOC and "The Squad" want to unfurl upon us where our greatest enemy is cow farts, hard work, capitalism, and airplanes. I left the democratic party to become an independent. I no longer support party politics.

Amazon is a joke with their "sales". Every time I've tried to take advantage of their prime deals something goes wrong during billing. And the one time I tried doing the chat thing to figure out the problem because it was after hours, and the people I got ahold of had a 2 year old's grasp of English and were dumber than a bag full of hammers. Also, on Prime day, they had one of the larger Yeti coolers for $150 off. I think it was the 65. They tell you how much of their stock has been depleted on the actual page. It said that 0% of the deal had been taken advantage of yet when you tried to purchase it said the cooler was no longer available. It was a scam hoping to draw you in and get you to buy something else.

This thread reminded me of my need for something in between my 25Qt insulated cooler and my 120Qt non-insulated cooler. I put together a list of rotomolded coolers in the 40-50Qt range, and came up with these:
    Yeti Tundra 45
    Pelican 50Qt
    Yukon Outfitters 45
    RTIC 45
    Cabela's Polar Cap 40QT
    Grizzly 40QT
    Orca 40QT

Here's a comparison chart I put together using manufacturer specs:

    Yeti Tundra 45
    Weight Exterior Base Price Warranty
    23lbs 25.75 x 16.1 x 15.4 24.5 x 13.4 $299 5 year

    Pelican 50QT
    Weight Exterior Base Price Warranty
    26.39lbs 30 x 20.3 x 20.4 22.5 x 14.5 $299 Lifetime (not handles?)

    Yukon Outfitters 45
    Weight Exterior Base Price Warranty
    25.77lbs 27.4 x 17.4 x 17.3 ? $179.99 18 months

    RTIC 45
    Weight Exterior Base Price Warranty
    25lbs 26.5 x 16.5 x 15.8 25.25 x 13.75 $187.78 1 year

    Cabela's 40QT
    Weight Exterior Base Price Warranty
    24lbs 32 x 18 x 18 $249 Lifetime

    Grizzly 40QT
    Weight Exterior Base Price Warranty
    24lbs 25.5 x 16 x 15.4 24.25 x 13.5 $269 Lifetime
    - 60QT
    30lbs 30.4 x 17.4 x 17.1 29 x 14.75 $299 Lifetime

    Orca 40QT
    Weight Exterior Base Price Warranty
    30lbs 26.25 x 18.1 x 17.6 23.1 x 14.9 $289.99 Lifetime

The support guy at Grizzly recommend stepping up to the 60QT since it was only $20 more, and you get an additional 20QTs. I worry that filling that extra space with either ice or stuff could make the combined weight too heavy for me to move by myself. For me, the Grizzly, RTIC and Yukon Outfitters are my top contenders.

To the OPs concern...yeah man, RTIC is putting that tariff info front and center. I get that you don't like it, but it doesn't mean you aren't still paying for it with anything else you buy that's made in China. Maybe other brands "eat the cost" meaning they don't pass along that tariff charge in the form of raising the price - but you better believe they make up for it somewhere. They'll cut their costs via quality control, staff pay, etc, but I highly doubt that tariff charge is going to negatively impact profit.

One you left off your list that should be looked at is KONG Coolers. Fairly new, but I found them on Youtube when reviewing RTIC for purchase. Evidently RTIC has a tendency to warp in really hot weather. Saw the KONG, and they are made in USA. Can only order them from the company. Excellent cooler, on par with any other I have tried. Good price to, on par with RTIC level prices and they have some pretty cool different accessories.

Good call. Kong makes a 50 - that doesn't say it's 50 quarts. Here are those specs for that one:
    Weight | Exterior | Base | Price | Warranty
    33lbs | 30.5 x 17.4 x 16.9 | 27.9 x 15.1 | $269 | lifetime

Before I go any further with this thread hijacking, I'll start a fresh one with more info.
