Fishing near private piers - etiquette

    Hi folks,

Currently own/fish from a canoe so I really don't go very far and am limited by wind often, but here's a question for now and future reference:

Is there an etiquette (or law) that one must follow when fishing near private piers that stick out into the creeks, rivers, and ICW? Seems like the water is public property and as long as you don't touch or moor to a private pier, you are ok. (Also, stay away if people are on the pier, using the pier, etc., or perhaps even enjoying the shore at their pier. I'm quite respectful of others, almost to a fault, but still .... if the flounder like the piers, then I'd like to fish near em!

water is public. Use common sense. Don't cast toward children, steer clear if there is someone already fishing there

and don't cast towards any boats docked at the piers.
