I will be staying on Oak Island in two weeks for vacation and was wondering if these sharks are caught from the surf.

You will catch a ton of little 12"-14" in the surf and maybe some a little bigger.
Here's one from a couple of weeks ago.....

Do you know what type of shark that is? Almost looks like a finetooth or juvi black tip. Can't tell from the ventral side. I am mostly looking for sharpnose and bonnetheads.

I've never seen a bonnethead here in Hatteras, although maybe further down in NC as you are fishing, maybe??? If you want sharpnose,be here spring or fall, you should be able to bail them... As far as bonnetheads,FLA on the flats with shrimp, there is no end to them....

Bonnetheads are a bycatch on Ocracokes south point but it is in winter when the boys are commercially seining for Rockfish or catching winter puppies. Green Ford I dont believe that to be a Bonnet head from the photo. A Bonnet looks closely like a Hammer with rounded extensions where the eyes are

We catch a bunch on the pier, I'm sure you can hook them in the surf as well.

I saw 3 caught off OCP a few weeks ago. I caught a 4ft doggy out of the surf about sunset and 12"ers allday long.
