Hey Tex I'm from McAllen, its nice to hear from someone near SPI. You're right, it is the best. The trout in the area are out of control right now. A buddy of mine and I limited out a couple of days ago and we could have done it twice if we wanted.

South Texas IS it for trout and reds. Just yesterday I was into keeper reds at Packery jetties, cut bait, and very short wait until the hits.

But then today -- the dreaded seaweed invasion. A photo from Bob Hall pier, 6.29.08:

The beaches are in prime summer condition this week in South Texas. This is Padre Island National Seashore's Malaquite Beach July 15.

And some other pictures from July 18-19 show great wade fishing with many keeper trout (at least 15 in) at the park's Bird Island windsurfing area, and a busy morning at Bob Hall Pier with king mackerel and pompano in clear blue water:

The weed has let up and the water has cleared up great. Had reports of Tarpon at Bob Hall as with Spanish Macks. Trout fishing has been good with some close to limits coming off PINS.
Get your fishing in soon before Dolly get here....

I went out to South Padre today for the first time since the big storm. The fishing was not good at all. We had a hard time just catching bait.

I'd like to hear how y'all have done since the storm. Thanks.

Here on Padre Island it's great (trout and reds), hope South Padre is back. Hard to believe it could be off for long down there!

More Corpus area after Dolly on

Just went to see for myself about the fishing today. They're having a huge tournament tomorrow and a lot of boats went out of Marker 37 marina this morning to get some practice. I went to the fish cleaning station at noon, three guys there with their limits of trout. They SAID they caught 'em on piggy perch.

Also, went to the surf at Corpus Christi, water's still cloudy close in, but take a look, the clear blue is getting close to the beach. Not in casting range but if you had a kayak...
