how come 95% of people only fish one side of the little bridge? is the other side poor fishing? or people just too lazy to cross the street? just wondering.

Great question!!!

A week ago today.. I saw more folks fishing the south side. Then last Friday it was about split 50/50 and some were sitting on the rocks. All in all most of the time I see folks fishing the south. I have pesonally never fished the little bridge but have walked out to talk to people and see if anything was going on fishin wise.

recently i think they have had to do some repairs and that may have affected it? i could see wind being a factor but almost always most people are fishing the south side. only fished it a couple of times in the fall but did well on barely legal specks in the early am (from the south side, mid channel), bite shut down later on but it was almost a fish every cast on doa cal shads for an hour or so.

It may have something to do with the direction of the current/tide. A few years ago, I was fishing the bridge as the current was heading to the south. Most everyone was fishing the south side. Maybe this was to keep from losing their rigs and lures under the bridge, since the current was carrying them away from the bridge. I went to the north side and let the current carry a carolina rigged pinfish under the bridge. Within a couple minutes, I caught my first striped bass...about 7-8 lbs.

PS: if you do fish the bridge, it may be a good idea to carry along a drop net, or at least be prepared to hand line a decent fish up to the bridge. In the excitement, I hefted this guy up with my brand new Penn Legion rod and ended up snapping about 10" off the end of the rod.

For many years we've been lucky enough to fish OBX a few times each year and Little Bridge is one of our more productive places. We were down a few days after Matthew and had a great week catching puppy drum and trout. While we were there people were fishing both sides of the bridge and on the rocks. It did seem that some people caught more fish than others but I saw fish caught from both sides of the bridge. We don't have set pattern. We pick a good looking spot to start then while fishing keep an eye on the opposite side. The people who fish there can be bad about crowding you if they see you catch a fish. Last trip I had a nice trout hooked deep. Before I could get the hook out there was 3 guys standing by me.

I fish either side. Much like on a pier. I prefer fishing whichever side the current is moving, but I'm fine with either.
