My vacation rental in Florida is uninhabitable and they have canceled on us. The wife is now going to take my daughter and grandson home since my son in law is coming back from overseas on the 30th. I'll have pretty much the whole week to myself. The question is, where do I go for some good surf fishing that week? I was thinking about Davis Island but I am open to just about anything. Thanks.

I prefer the convenience of the village on Ocracoke. Good luck wherever you go . glenn

Thanks Glenn. Is there tent camping? I imagine everything else is booked already.

Think you are talking last week of Oct? There is a federal campground that I think will still be open as well as at least one private campground. I make 4-5 trips a year and stay at Pony Island Motel - clean, reasonable, good people. A beach driving pass is required. good luck - glenn

You need to check on what is open. Due to hurricane Matthew, Ocracoke is not being opened to visitors until Monday, 10/17. I do know what is open on the island.

Frisco Woods Campground got a lot of damage to their cabins as well is what i heard. All phones are still out on southern end. We're suppose to be going to Hatteras Sands on Tuesday but still haven't been able to find out if they will be open or not.

Copy that. I'm still leaning towards Davis Island at the moment. Mostly just because I've never been.

So, I booked the ferry for Sunday but was looking at the ferry route and it seems to go to cape lookout. Can you actually get to davis island without owning your own boat?

Arrived at cape lookout around 8am, boarded the ferry about 9am. We've caught a med blue, Several several small whiting, 3 small rays, an undersized black drum, and 1 18" flounder. That's my first keeper flounder. We're still fishing but the bite is dead. We pitched or tent about 100yds north of 39.

Same story as yesterday except it was my buddy that bright in a 20" flounder.
