Virginia anglers are blessed with waters that hold stripers, red and black drum, and cobia. Miles of fishable beaches and plenty of piers make the mouth of the Chesapeake the place where northern and southern fish meet.
Taking my son fishing this weekend around Nags Head. He'd like to try for Sheepshead and so would I. No boat so our current ideas include:

I'm building a 12ft rod so I can reach out a little further. I have a 525 penn mag on a 10 footer that I am happy with , I know there is a penn squall now .. but what else is out there ? Being from the midwest I'm not up on all the reel options. Any input /ideas would be appreciated. thx jjm
Planning on doing some surf fishing this September in the Outer Banks. Will be my first time surf fishing and I'm not really sure on what sizes and types of hooks I should be using. I plan to just soak some bait (cut mullet, FB's, shrimp, sandfleas, etc.) in the surf on some double bottom rigs...
Sooo work has me busy... and my days off had have thunderstorms in the forecast ever try I try to make a run to solomons bridge pier...
What current temperature on that bottom in pax river now? Are we still getting that bloom effecting area?
cant be that long until big croaker come?
