Surf Report: Garden City

I went down to the regular Trout spot today and there were a bunch of Guacamole's there today. they usually leave when I get there because they know I call DNR on them
Sho'nuff ! they left soon after I got there.
I noticed a guy wading with a raincoat, small rod and the right lure on his line .
HMMMMMMMMM
I was quite bewildered by this (bewildered....Pissed....Same thing)
I put my new waders on and wandered into the water.

I was quite apprehensive about this "strange Person" (A**hole)in my fishin' hole with the right gear necessary to trout fish.

I figgered I'd play detective and find out who this intruder is
Conversation as follows
ME: (waist deep in water) Catchin anything?
HIM: A few small trout and a blue
ME: Thats a good sign..should be good tonite
HIM: Ya....we got a few last nite
MECuriosity peaked) Last nite?? HMMMMMMM
HIM: YA
ME:Should be good tonite...we got a good moon
HIM: YA
ME: (made a few more casts and moved closer to him)
ME: kinda slow right now
HIM: slowed down a bit right now
ME: (Trying to get a good look at him)
ME: (dont recognize him) HMMMMMMMM
ME: I said "I dont think I know you" Offered my hand and asked his name
HIM: Mark
ME: CAPTAIN MARK???
HIM: (bewildered)
ME: I'm Steve....(before he could respond) "The Skink"
Him: Dude!!! I finally get to meet you!!!

Mark is a great guy to fish with. He has the heart of a lion when it comes to fishing
We discussed the tides, moon phases and trout fishing in general
YES...he got alot of secrets from me but I believe he can be trusted
Even though it was a beautiful nite tonite, I believe he's a guy I can call on a cold December nite and thrash the surf with
We casted the shine off of the lures tonite and he hung in there like a champ
We did get some blues, but as far as I'm concerned.....I was trout fishing and I got SKUNKED tonite.
I like fishing with Mark and i highly recommend all the locals get to know him.
I also recommend all the visitors contact him because he's a quick learner and he believes (like me) that less is more. He's gonna be a great fisherman

For instance: he found out that in order to catch trout.....dont catch ribbonfish!
I like fishing with people that have the passion that i do. Coch3s3, Salt in my Veins, CaptMark , smoothlures to name a few
I highly recommend putting CaptMark in your top 5 locals to fish with

After Mark left...I hung around the rocks for a while. I didnt fish but I love being there and I always thank god for allowing me to be there. A prayer and a thank you is just necessary as far as I'm concerned. People live their entire lives to retire here, and the Lord allows me to be here every day. I never forget that.

Gotta work for a few days

Hey Skink,
It was great to finally meet you!
Thanks for all the kind words and sharing all the info
(secrets) you gave me. You are one of a kind, that
make meeting one of life's simple pleasures.

I got there early with the bandit o's running
around, and two older guys in the hole. There
in shorts, take your time. There's no way there
going to last. Get the waders on and bingo there
out of there. First five casts and a chunk blue.
Then a small trout, just measures and he's thin.
That one goes back. Ten Min's later another trout.
He's the same and goes back. One more little trout
and now I'm thinking when the moon gets up the Fat
lady's are going to want to dance.

That's when Skink shows up and we talk a while
then get to work. Next up a pup, he goes back.
Next up a ribbon about four feet. (Huge) I mean
the longest I've ever seen. Next up a ribbon,
next up a ribbon, next up a ribbon. You get the picture.
Now I ask Skink if he knows Voodoo. Get the Chit off me please!
Damn I'm pissed but still got some good laughs. (capt ribbons)

We both had some shake offs but thats fishing.
Not the best night, but you have to pay your due's!
All in all still a good night with meeting Skink, and all the info
shared.

Thanks again Skink and Yes I'll be there as the water gets COLD!

Was down there fishing the surf yesterday afternoon. Got a little of everything. Black drum, flounder, puppy drum, "palm"pano, big whiting, and a decent sized spadefish. Best bait was a live shrimp on a Carolina rig. Funny thing about the flounder was that it was bright yellow on the "white" side. Never seen anything like it. The fillets were yellow hued as well.
