I remember two years ago, the red tide hit Panama City Beach really hard when we were staying there in October. It all but halted my surf fishing for the entire week. We made the 600 mile trip from home and I couldn't even fish, much less be outside without choking to death. It was terrible.

that sounds like a horrible vacation Xi Bow. i think i would have asked the rental company for my money back just for the heck of it just to see what they would say; and then headed over to east coast like St. Augustine. im sure they would have probably told you ''sorry, its not a mandatory evacuation like a hurricane''...but thats what i would have done just to see what they would say. any time us land locked people head to the coast for a few days its always a crap shot on whether the fishing is any good but i have never encountered the red tide problem. bummer for sure.
