GardenCity Specks

Got down a little to early tonite. Went down at 3:30. not much happened until about 5 PM.
The nite started out with Blue. Hundreds of them. they were everywhere, all about 5-6 lb'ers. I could cast 10 ft in front of me and catch one. 10 ft behind me and catch one. I could cast as far as i could and catch one. For about 45 minutes thats all I could catch. The kind that make you walk about 75 yds down the beach to land them. Lost some lures too.

then I caught a seagull. it dove on my lure and i hooked him. crap! I hate when they do that.

a small dead time occurred and then the trout moved in. I got several that would have made the minimum but i let them go...I like the bigger ones. I lost several because i thought they were blues. for some reason all the trout i caught tonite jumped like blues do. I landed a jumper thinking it was a blue and to my surprise it was a spec. I had to rethink my retrieve and play every fish like a trout.

as i was casting one time, a seagull flew over from behind me. I hooked him in mid-air. ( can you yell "PULL")

As i unhooked him i wove a tapestry of obscenities that is still hanging over Murrells Inlet like a cloud of doom.

After that it was trout and flounder for the next hr or so
I got one keeper flounder out of 4 caught and 5 keeper (4 lb'ers) specked trout. I lost about 12-15 hits but thats usual for me. I'm the worst for losing trout even with all those treble hooks on the lures

I'll be taking tomorrow off to let my back recoup and spend some time with the lovely Miss Debbie playing WII.
I'll go back on Wed and let y'all know how I do

See y'all in 6 tides

Hey Skink. I had a similar problem (only worse) with a bird last year. Me and dad were trolling for stripers using a long bill rapala. We had been cruising along at a slow steady speed when i noticed my rod was no longer bent and the line was at a strange angle. I turned around to see my line going out of the water and up into the air. On the other end was a huge white ingret. These things have 4 and 5 ft wing spans and beaks that can open your hand like an zippy bag. I have no idea how the bird got ahold of my lure. I assume the lure became fouled and came up to the surface. Still odd however in that these birds usually feed real close to the bank. I did the only thing I could. I reeled the critter down to the surface wrapped my hands and arms with jackets shirts and towels and grabbed the beast around its neck It was like holding onto a small feathered tornado while my dad removed the hook from the tip of its bill. We freed the critter and after a lot limping around the bank and IM sure cussing us out like a dirty sailer in its fowl language it finally flew off. Sh$%t flying out of its butt in a solid stream as it overpassed the top of our boat. I guess I would have done the same thing.

I think the lure got fouled with debris or something and it came to surface.
