hand position
there is much said about swinging lead when pendulum casting right pushes lead out left in. the remark frequently stated is when you have done the out swing there should be no movement of the right shoulder when the left is pulling in, still when watching there clips there is movement. will u clarify thanks.

Not exactly sure what you are getting at-- But some people do have noticable upper body "sway" occuring-- usually results from pulling the top hand (and shoulder)back instead of pushing the bottom hand down and out to create the in swing.
The other thing you want to avoid is tucking or "ducking" the shoulder of the upper hand under the rod as you come around-- tho I've noticed even very good casters due tend to lower the shoulder just a bit at some point-- this helps to get the butt up and the tip down behind you before the final power stroke. You may have to clarify the question some what-- but that's my take so far. Maybe Tommy has a better idea of what you're referencing. |

I've seen many different ways of getting the proper swing when doing a pendulum. Anywhere from all movement occuring in the left hand to the right arm doing most of the work. I think what it all boils down to is finding a style and a swing that makes sense and works for you. I've been trying pendulum and cross swings for the last two weeks or so and I've found out that alot of what you see on YouTube doesn't work for me. (I also found that I have lots more work to do on the OTG lol) Part of what I'm going to work on before next season is finding a style that works for me and gets me the best distance.

There is no "right" way to pendulum. Blackbeard is one of the best of all time and he lifts aggressively with the right after the sinker is fully extended on the outswing( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUuaxqntK8g ), Peter Thain keeps the right fairly stationary and gets the sinker moving using a pumping motion with the left (at 30 secs casting a plug http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kBt4wHYFmw ) . Very different styles, both very effective.
You have to find your own way, although working with an experienced caster can cut through the learning curve. ![]() Tommy |
